Not too much to speak of in the past few weeks as we’re waiting on funds to be able to order/purchase our kitchen cabinets and flooring…but, we’ve been doing small things. We installed trim and painted and caulked in the sunken living room. I also put a gloss sealer on the concrete flooring in the sunken living to give them some sheen.
Mike has also installed some of the outlets and plates, and a few more lights around the house. He has also learned how to rewire lights which is very helpful. I found some vintage mod sconces at Room Service Vintage. Mike isn’t in love with them, but we needed something for now to install and we can’t yet afford the sconces we really want as they’re pretty pricey. Of course we had to change their color from a bold orange to a bold yellow, and Mike is a perfectionist so he sprayed them twice and then he decided he wasn’t happy with the job and proceeded to strip the one fixture down to the metal and repaint it! Photos of those coming soon, they aren’t quite installed yet…
Also, I’ve been working on small projects such as refinishing the black eames style chairs I got at the city wide garage sale, and sanding and painting an art deco cabinet that I got at an estate sale for $30. We’re also getting our recycled wall art ready for hanging…
I attempted to wallpaper one wall in the laundry room – I thought it would be an easy wall to start with. Ehh, not so much. I learned that a – wallpaper is a lot more difficult than it looks and b – I suck at it. Oh well, we’ll hire someone for that.
Speaking of hiring someone we’ve selected and ordered tile for the laundry room, and since we have all the other tile for the bathrooms already, we’re getting ready to have it all installed starting late this week or early next. That is very exciting because it means those bathrooms will soon be ready, or at least partially ready, for use.
I’m very excited to be able to use one of the rooms on the main level of the house. It is the dining room, but since we don’t have a kitchen up there yet, it’s actually serving as my client meeting area. I should be closing on my commercial studio space on E 11th Street in the next month, but until then this is what I’m using. Then, it’s finish out of the studio commercial space, as if I didn’t have enough to manage with this money pit
And now here are some pics.
Have I mentioned that I am in love with our front door? I am not sure what kind of wood, or wood veneer this is but I love it. And I also love the vintage brass peephole.
I also love this vintage fixture that is in my office area.
The sitting area/kitchen as it is now.
My current client meeting area and our future dining room.
