palm springs (mid century architecture mecca) and san diego!

2 Apr

I wanted to share a bunch photos from the fun family vacation we took to Palm Springs and San Diego in February! Our daughter Zoey is 2 1/2 and finally old enough to really have fun going places and doing things with us, so we decided to take a family vacation (and one where I wasn’t photographing a wedding during the trip, which is usually the case). We decided on Palm Springs because Mike and I have always wanted to go there (and of course we have a mild obsession with mid century architecture and Palm Springs is a mecca for that!) and San Diego was another place that we always wanted to go (and we knew Z would have fun there with Legoland and the zoo)! So, without further ado here are some of my favorite photos from the trip!

the desert near palm springs. we took the scenic route from san diego to palm springs, which also turned out to be the super scary curvy mountainside roads with no guard rail route! 032013palmspringsvacay002

we stayed at the ace hotel, because we are hip like that. not!

happy halloween!

31 Oct

Happy Halloween from Moo (aka Shrek) and Linus (aka bad dog) – he’s got the prison tats to prove it. Hahaha.

Wedding season full in effect + travel for some of those weddings + 4 portrait sessions on one week = neglecting the little old home remodeling blog. Ack, I promise I’ll be back with it soon. And I realize I need to really do a full house tour as I never really posted pretty finished photos of the kitchen, and plus we’ve tweaked other areas of the house since the last time I posted pics! So, that is all coming soon as well as photos of our exterior remodel and patio redo. They started painting on Saturday and I am in LOVE. It’s such an amazing difference I can’t wait to share photos. The new siding and paint has modernized the house more than I even thought possible. I can’t wait to share!!

mexico…

13 Sep

Margaritas, guacamole, sand and sun…that was all I was thinking about last week as we were preparing to head out to Cozumel for a wedding shoot (yes, my job is awesome). We are lucky to have some awesome relatives and parents who love our Zoey. So, Zoey stayed with nana and papa while Mike and I had a lovely break. Mike and I have a major love affair with Mexico. It’s where we got married almost three years ago (in Playa del Carmen to be exact) and where we spent our honeymoon (Isla Mujeres). I’ve been so lucky to have been to the Riviera Maya/Cancun area many times to photograph weddings – it seems I get to go once and sometimes twice a year. Mexico has gotten a lot of bad press lately for being unsafe (and no doubt there are places that are unsafe) but we were lucky that we didn’t experience any issues while we were there. The people there are nice, the food is awesome, and the drinks strong the way I like them :) Though I was working some of our short trip, we did spend Sunday laying in the sun, swimming, and snorkeling in the famed reefs of Cozumel. We saw barracuda, a sea turtle, a huge lobster (yum), lots of beautiful fish, and thankfully NO sharks, haha! It was a great trip and I can’t wait to go back, and to take Zoey there someday. Here is one pic from my phone of the flight into Cozumel (on a tiny scary Mexican plane, but we flew so low we had amazing views)!

I will get back to posting on our home improvements soon – now that we are back from travels and settling back into our regular routine! But in the meantime, here are a few more funny things. First, hipsters. Austin is FULL of them, and this describes them to a tee :)

I thought this pic was really cute – poor iphone quality but funny nonetheless!

And how awesome are these little mini albums? They are called accordian mini albums and they are 3″ square. I had one made for me and Mike as well as for Zoey’s grandparents. LOVE them. I had them made thru my pro photographer lab but they are available to the general public at Mpix.

That’s all I’ve got for now! Gotta finish unpacking. We’ve got lots in the works for the house so hopefully we will have some new pics soon!

colorado!

8 Sep

I’ve been meaning to post photos from our trip to Colorado for months now (two months to be exact)! We went to Estes Park, Colorado for a week in July to participate in my brother’s wedding and to have a little family vacation. Unfortunately, Mike had major work obligations so he was only about to be with us for a couple days of the trip, but Zoey’s grandparents got to spend a lot of time with her which they loved. We flew into Denver where we stayed for a day (and drove down to Colorado Springs to see the Garden of the Gods, which you will see in the first set of photos). Then, we drove up to Estes Park, stopping in Boulder for lunch on the way. Estes Park was absolutely amazing, perfect weather (especially compared to Austin at the time), and just so pretty everywhere you looked. We drove up into Rocky Mountain National Park a couple times and even got to see snow! In July! Jeremy and Lindsay’s wedding was beautiful and amazing and so much fun! So much fun in fact that my aunt Karen fell and broke her wrist! It was quite the fun and eventful reception. All in all, we were in Colorado for a week and loved every minute of it! It was so nice to spend some quality time with family. Here are some pics!

no progress to report and happy about it!

This weekend we didn’t do a darn thing to the house, inside or outside, and it was awesome. We slept in, had cuddle time in bed with Zoey, went vintage shopping (but didn’t buy anything!), watched movies on tv, and went swimming. We really needed a weekend like this since we’ve spent every available weekend for the past two months working either on the outside patio makeover or doing something to the inside (we have a long list of little things on our main level that still need to be done and a few big things we’d like to do downstairs). But, in the meantime we’re getting ready to close on our small home improvement loan this week, and hopefully have our contractor redo our siding starting after labor day. Once that is done, and all painted, and we finally purchase furniture for our patio, we will consider our patio makeover complete. I expect that will be sometime in October – just in time for the cool weather that I am daydreaming of (hell0 68+ days of 100 degree or more temps, ugh).

In the meantime, I wanted to post just a few photos from Zoey’s birthday party last weekend! I had a fun time designing some of the elements and choosing the colors. It was fun to get crafty! I’m so lucky that with my day job (photographer) I get to be very creative, but sometimes I like to get crafty in other ways too.  Zoey’s birthday will be featured as a party feature in a coming issue of Austin Monthly Home magazine so I will save most of the pics until after it is published. But, in the meantime here are a couple snaps that I took of the decor (and the shots of Zoey are all by my amazing photographed friend Stacy Sodolak). And thanks to my lovely friend Gina with Clink for organizing the party for the photoshoot!

This is our favor bar – a candy bar! With pink and white animal cookies, homemade whoopie pies, assorted cookies from Tiff’s Treats, strawberry wafers, Banana now and laters, and rock candy! I made the flag banner.

Bubble favors with little labels that I made.

I also made these labels for the dessert bar! And yes, I am more than slightly obsessed with the chevron pattern right now. And yellow? Crazy that I used yellow, eh?

This flag banner is going to hang in Zoey’s room, as soon as I have a chance to hang it! The glittery letters are from Hobby Lobby.

I made these Oatmeal Whoopie Pies and I have to say they were pretty amazing. I’ll post the recipe soon!

Aren’t these goodie bags cute? From Sweet Estelle’s Baking Supply on etsy. I also got some cute small chevron patterned bags there as well as the striped paper straws which I am a little obsessed with (not pictured)

Oh, and we had a cupcake bar! So much fun, made to order cupcakes!

And here is the birthday girl herself, getting ready to dive into her ginormous cake that I made. (don’t look too close, it’s not that pretty). Let’s just say I’m not quitting my day job anytime soon! :)

The cake was made with LOVE. It took forever, and it was my first attempt to ever make a layered, tiered cake, and with fondant on top! It was hard to do!

And this is Zoey with her birthday present from us – a KidKraft vintage white kitchen. Isn’t it awesome? I want one in my size. Oh, and her dress is from the Baby Gap outlet and I am in love with it. I want it in my size!

Happy 1st Birthday Zoey!!

cupcake smash!

22 Jul

I just had to share a couple pics of Zoey from this afternoon having her birthday cupcake! We let her at it, and boy did she attack it! And if you’re in Austin (or visiting) you must get some sweet treats at Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, it’s the BEST.

Happy Birthday to my sweet, amazing little girl Zoey

22 Jul

I cannot believe it has been a year since she was born, it’s cliche but it feels like yesterday. This photo is from her first happy birthday serenade (first of many I am sure) in Denver last week at a cute diner. Today I will devote my entire day to her – playing with her and having fun and making her giggle (because that sound is one of my favorite sounds in the world).
