round top/warrenton antiques weekend

5 Apr

Two posts in one week? What?! I must have a fever ;)

I made two trips out to the huge Round Top/Warrenton antiques fair this year (my first time to EVER go)! I didn’t realize how close it was to Austin (about an hour and 20 minutes!) – if I had known I am sure I would have gone in years past! So, I talked to a few people who also went this year and who had been in years past and thought it was disappointing/overpriced. I generally agree about overpriced, though as for disappointing since I didn’t have anything to compare it to I thought it was huge, overwhelming, and fun :) I tried to do some research online before I went to figure out layout, where to go, etc…but the websites I could find were pretty poorly designed, so I just sort of winged it! Driving down the main road, you hit both towns and there are tents/barns everywhere. The general flow seemed to be that the rows and rows of smaller tents were more flea market/digging for treasures (definitely my style) and the big tents were more of the well priced/overpriced more organized wares!

So, the first day I went was early on in the show schedule, before some of the larger parts of the show were open. It was an unplanned improptu trip/girl bonding with Zoey (a bit risky since she is only 2 1/2 but we had a great time and she was soooo good). I think I will make a bonding trip with Zoey to the antiques show a yearly tradition for us. I want her to love vintage shopping as much as I do :) The second time I went was when the show officially started, and I went with some girlfriends. However, the weather was really bad that day so we got pretty rained out. We got some good morning shopping done before the skies opened up on us! I wish I had time to go on the last day (Sunday) because I think there could be some bargains to be had…

Here are some of my purchases:

mid century coffee table $60 (I’m restoring this one)

IMG_5638

mid century aqua casserole $20

IMG_5653

vintage pachinko game $50 – I had never heard of these before, but I am in love with the design/colors of it. I want to inset it into the wall in our house as a piece of unique art!!

IMG_5656

mid century ceramic boat bowl with deep blue inset $8 – I think this was my best small score

IMG_5659

raw edge coffee table $150 – this thing is awesome

IMG_5617

IMG_5640

retro tv trays, set of 4, $5 each! (begging dog not included) – how retro fabulous are these?

IMG_5622

And here are a few things I loved but didn’t buy :)

These architectural (fiberglass) retro panels were really interesting! Unfortunately, this shop was closed (due to rain that day) so I couldn’t get any info on them. I think they were from vintage carnival rides?

IMG_5660

IMG_5661

This wicker side table was just so cute, I am starting to really get into wicker (which is so odd for me) $20

IMG_5662

SCAIRY BABYHOTEL This was just too creepy not to share.IMG_5663

and then it started pouring, but it didn’t stop us from shopping!

IMG_5664

this farmhouse table was really interesting with a very rustic top and super modern chrome legs. I love the contrast of styles.

IMG_5666

See, I told you I have a sudden thing for wicker! Loved this daybed/sofa, would be really cool in the right house with some colorful cushions.

I think it was $325?IMG_5667

This wasn’t for sale, but how cute is this vintage shasta trailer with gold trim?! I wanted to steal it :)

IMG_5668

I was trying to figure out what I could do with this super cool retro tv!

IMG_5669

Loved these adorable camping chairs and the retro pattern on the fabric!

IMG_5671

Random shot of Z in our messy house with a laundry basket on her head. Imagine her doing the robot (even though she wasn’t). Because that’s how we roll.

IMG_5675

Loved this retro rocker, but it was already sold :(   $50

I wanted it because we already own one just like it, in mini size, that we picked up at a Citywide Garage Sale.

IMG_5600

This retro looking shelving unit was made out of recycled parts (company based in CA). I loved it! I think it was around $900.

IMG_5592

This long, low mid century sofa was around 3k I think. Pricey for me, but pretty.IMG_5601

Loved these vibrant wicker (again) chairs, $50 for the pair

            IMG_5655

Amazing Italian mid century leather chairs. Already sold when I saw them, and too pricey anyways ($3800/4 I think?)

IMG_5596

Loved this tent, amazing (pricey) mid century finds. All the real deal.

IMG_5602

Almost bought the tall mid century lamp ($150?) but I need another lamp like I need a hole in the head.

IMG_5594

This isn’t Round Top related, but found this amazing chrome recliner at Room Service this week, $125. Mike has been begging for a recliner for years, and I’ve resisted because they are generally hideous (yet comfortable). What a catch 22. But I saw this one and loved it. It will be even better reupholstered, I’m thinking a gray leather that will wear nicely. And it’s SO comfy. I sit in it all the time when Mike isn’t home :)

IMG_5648

IMG_5654

Almost bought this pair of vintage sofas for Retrospective ($750/2) but I passed

IMG_5614

Vintage modern dining chairs $500/4

IMG_5613

Acrylic filament vintage light fixture, almost bought it for the remodel but passed $75

IMG_5608

More pretty amazing dining chairs, would be great reupholstered.

  IMG_5605

Milo Baughman marble top credenza, I wish.

That’s all for now!

steal – turquoise mod dining room

23 Sep

Last week I started a new series called splurge and steal…with what could be my dream room (because a girl can dream, right?) and what would be my reality (because money doesn’t grown on trees)! It all started with this light fixture (the Le Soleil Pendant) that I spotted in a home design magazine, that retails for around $1500.

So, then I posted my “splurge” dining room based around this light fixture. Here it is below for recap.

Sources:

1 | La Soleil light pendant, $1551 ( aka my dream light fixture, probably my favorite EVER)

2 | Jonathan Adler Owl Scuplture, $195 (Owls are just cool)

3 | Ventana Mirror, nickel and white, $495 (a very pretty mirror)

4 | 1970′s Lucite Framed Dark Turquoise Lacquer Buffet, if you have to ask you can’t afford it price unknown (I am seriously in lurve with this buffet)

5 | Wegner wishbone chair, caspian blue, $895 each (Likewise, these chairs are AMAZING)

6 | Platner Dining Table, $3343 (I want something made by Platner before I die)

7 | Ombre Rug, $799 (This rug is just perfect)

GRAND TOTAL $9963 for everything and four of the Wegner chairs, not including the cost of the buffet since it is unknown.

And now it’s time for the STEAL!! drumroll please :)

1 | Vintage Teal Pendant Light, $150 (this would be a great substitue pendant – though I’m sad to say it has sold since I first found it on etsy)

2 | Owl Vase, $19.99

3 | Convex Mirrors, $65 for both

4 | Dumont Buffet, $599

5| Birch Sapling White Dining Chairs , $88.99 each

6| Silverado Dining Table,  $299

7 | Ombre Rug, $799 (This rug is just perfect)

8 | Mariposa Table Lamp, $149

GRAND TOTAL $2437 for everything and four of the dining chairs.

And get this – I contacted the seller of the this amazing piece (from the splurge board) and got an asking price. You won’t even believe. I dare you to guess and then scroll down and I’ll post the price.

keep scrolling…

a little more…

almost there…

The asking price for the amazing lucite and turquoise vintage buffet is $11,392!! I kid you not! My jaw dropped when I saw that email. I am sure someone will come along and buy it, it’s gorgeous. But wow.

So, that brings the grand total for the splurge room to $21,355! And the grand total for the steal room to $2,437! That is a difference of $18,918! So, which one do you like better, if you had no idea on the price?

splurge and steal

I spotted this light fixture recently in one of the design magazines (Austin Monthly Home) I subscribe to.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. However, if I were to ever buy it, it would be a TOTAL splurge. I can’t even imagine spending $1500+ on a light fixture, but this is one where I *just* might, I love it that much. Of course, we don’t really have a place in our house that would even work, so it’s just a dream for now. But, seeing it got me to thinking…and I decided to create a design board/dream dining room based around this fixture. I must have too much time of my hands. But no, I actually don’t have enough time, but this is a fun hobby for me! I call it splurge, because all of the amazing pieces on this board are a total splurge (at least to me)! If I had the means, I would totally redecorate my dining area around this light. And of course if I had the money I’d have to get an amazing vintage buffet and Platner chrome and glass table, right?

STAY TUNED for my STEAL version of this dining room next week!

obsessions…

4 Aug

I’ve been coming across some pretty cool interiors lately on pinterest and I wanted to share one of my favs – these images are of the Lords Hotel in South Beach – it’s bold, it’s colorful, it’s modern. I love it. I might not be brave enough to do this with my own house but I would LOVE to stay there for a weekend! It’s just so cheerful and sunny – yellow and turquoise are one of my most favorite color combinations – so much so that I used it at my own wedding in Mexico! LOVING the yellow stripes – if I am bold enough this may happen in our bedroom (well and if I can convince Mike)!

The designer is a firm called BHDM Design based out of  New York! It looks like they do fabulous work!
